As you may have heard in the Foundations course and definitely time and time again during our daily WODs the second part of the CrossFit Charter tri-fecta is Consistency. Along with its brothers Mechanics, and Intensity it’s one of the cornerstones of beginning with and being successful at CrossFit!
Remember that first and foremost an athlete must concentrate on the Mechanics of a movement, or the athlete’s ability to move properly though the movement. For an athlete to be able to concentrate on the mechanics of a movement that athlete should be CONSISTENT in their application. That is, the athlete must not only try to grasp the mechanics when listening to the instruction given but then the athlete should apply those mechanics in a consistent manner. How did you get your first double-unders? Was it just by picking up the rope for the first time and spinning it really quick? Or did it take you picking up a rope before and after the WODs for a couple minutes whenever you could? Through the double-unders required in the daily WOD three times a week? Most likely the latter… in other words through consistently training those mechanics.
The great thing about Consistency is we at CrossFit Rise Above can absolutely promise you you can achieve 100 % consistency! We can’t do that with mechanics… everyone is always striving to have perfect mechanics, it’s why Tiger still practices his swing or Usain Bolt still runs intervals. As for Intensity everyone has an off-day where they can’t quite get their mind right to commit 100% to the WOD or their body’s aches keep them from applying themselves all the way to the movement at hand. But Consistency… well that’s the one we can guarantee you!
That’s right, we have the perfect method to assure each and every athlete that trains with us, hell even the ones that don’t train with us that they can achieve 100% Consistency. If you take one thing away from this whole post today take away our secret that guarantees that you will have 100% CONSISTENCY. Here it is… SHOW UP!
Show up for the daily WODs, show up for your weekend runs, show up for whatever you want to get better at! Show up both mentally and physically. Show up knowing that you’ve gone over the mechanics and now you’re going to put them to use to the best of your ability. The great thing about this technique is that if you follow it you can achieve 100% CONSISTENCY and improve your mechanics and intensity, BUT even if you don’t follow it you can still improve your CONSISTENCY 100%.
That’s right if you choose not to SHOW UP on the days you just don’t feel like it, or choose not to SHOW UP on the days we’re doing the movement that you don’t like you still will achieve 100% CONSISTENCY… at being in the exact same place you were the day before. No benefit realized, no goal improved upon, no difference made!

Wow, great post Coach Eric. Did anyone else feel like he was talking directly at you?? I know I did
